Celebrating women in mining on International Women’s Day

BOA Resources celebrates all women in mining on International Women’s Day.

Leading the way in female leadership for the resources sector, in October 2023, BOA Resources appointed its first female Managing Director and Chair Cath Norman.

With a strong pedigree of leadership in the resources sector previously as MD of Far Ltd, Cath continues her passion to lead a team that is determined to deliver Australia’s next mineral find.

BOA is pleased its Board and management team represent an equal gender balance of some of the best talent in the industry.

BOA Resources defeats the odds, with mining continuing to be Australia’s least diverse sector with women representing about 20% of the workforce.

The industry is attracting more females and the reasons are varied with the industry showcasing the enormous opportunities it presents females. 2022 was the first year the ASX 200 mining companies recorded boards with female appointees.

BOA Resources Managing Director Cath Norman says: “Diversity in mining is driven by creating conversations about the needs of our people and carefully balancing work and personal ambitions without sacrificing one for the other. While policies and processes are important to drive the agenda, it’s the listening and learning of what people have to say that delivers diversity.”

Meanwhile quoting a Mining News.net report recently published, where Australian Institute of Company Directors CEO Mark Rigotti said: “Given the critical role of the chair in guiding decision-making and setting the culture and tone for boardroom discussions, chair appointments should also be recognised as a key opportunity for setting the standard on leadership diversity.”

Cath Norman says she is privileged to have been handed the reins to lead the next era of BOA Resources’ growth and development of its exploration portfolio.

“It’s not about being a female leader, but about being the best leader for BOA Resources and in the industry and equally driving the best qualities and expertise from our management team to explore and create success, serve our shareholders and be a beacon of good corporate governance,” Cath Norman says.
