Boadicea Resources talks about upcoming drill plans for IGO at its Fraser Range tenements
Boadicea Resources together with its exploration partner IGO are entering into one of the most active exploration phases in the nine-year history of Boadicea at Boadicea’s Symons Hill project undertaking 700m of diamond drilling.
Boadicea Managing Director Jon Reynolds spoke with Andrew Scott of Proactive Investors outlining the exploration plans for Boadicea’s Symons Hill project.
IGO, Boadicea’s exploration partner for nine of Boadicea’s 11 projects in the Fraser Range has confirmed it will undertake drilling on the highly prospective Orion target together, with a large MLEM survey scheduled to begin in May.
Add to this, IGO has provided additional details on significant aircore drilling and EM surveys on a number of the Boadicea licences.
The focus of the IGO drilling is targeting an extension to the Orion prospect within Boadicea’s licence area. IGO has an extensive ground holding in the Fraser Range with more than 15,000km2 and more than 600 possible targets. Orion is the highest priority target in all the 600 targets.
Orion has been drill tested to within 25m of our licence boundary and the drill hole is stepping a further 300m into our Symons Hill licence. Even more important is that Orion is within about 3km of the Nova nickel mine and hence extremely attractive to IGO.
The other notable feature of the Orion prospect is that it is interpreted to be increasing in grade to the north-east and therefore into the Boadicea licence. The hole to be drilled will go to a depth of 700m and should be completed in June.
Jon Reynolds says the drilling is testing where IGO is fairly confident of the Orion extension within the Boadicea licence based on the drilling and 3D seismic work that was done on the IGO side of the fence.
To understand the potential extent within the Boadicea licence, IGO is about to start a large EM survey. This will cover approximately 20% of the Boadicea licence and nearly 500 survey stations.
This is designed to identify targets for the next phase of Orion drilling. The survey should be completed by June, so whilst it hasn’t been planned, we are hopeful for additional drilling action on the Orion prospect later in the year.
There are eight other licences as part of the IGO-Boadicea agreement and IGO has indicated previously that some work will be done during 2021. Some of this work has been brought forward including a number of EM surveys and aircore drilling on the Transline Group of tenements. This is highly significant because these tenements are all located near the Mawson nickel discovery by Legend Mining. Because of IGO’s extensive ground holding in the Fraser Range and an exploration budget of more than $35 million, this activity provides an exciting step for these relatively new tenements.
“The confirmation of the ‘step out’ hole on probably one of the most prospective targets for nickel-copper cobalt anywhere in the Fraser Range is very exciting. This is a very big step forward to the potential realisation of a resource on the Orion prospect and a large payday for Boadicea,” Jon Reynolds says.
“The additional EM surveys both across the Symons Hill licence and our Transline licences provide additional support for the exploration potential within the Boadicea Fraser Range tenements and the next six months will be an exciting period with a number of exciting new activities that we can update to the market,” Jon Reynolds says.
